LT1/LT4 SHORT BLOCK ENGINES
LT1/LT4 LONG BLOCK ENGINES
GM first used the LT1 designation in 1970. Cast iron and with heads to match, this performance Small Block made a reported 360 hp and 380 lb-ft. Big numbers for that era!
Jump to ’92 and the LT1 re-appears. Now it's on a Small Block designed with reversed-flow cooling for a higher compression ratio. Output was “just” 300 hp and 330 lb-ft, which is why the Chevy LT4 crate engine emerged.
Derived from the LT1, this had special aluminum heads, a more aggressive cam and larger diameter valves with increased lift. Output jumped to 330 hp, but the LT4 engine lasted just one year, being replaced in ’97 by the 345 hp LS1. (If that engine appeals, check out our line of LSx crate engines.)
In 2014, the LT1 stages another comeback. This time, it's all-aluminum and displacing 376 cu in (6.2 liters). It has titanium intake valves, forged rods and pistons, is available with wet or dry sump lubrication, and makes 460 hp and 465 lb-ft.
Delicious numbers, but not enough for everyone, so along came a new LT4. As with the previous LT4 engine, this derived from the LT1, but now it gained an Eaton supercharger. Output jumped to 640 hp and 630 lb-ft.
Building on Success
The 2014 onward LT1/LT4 engine is impressively engineered and has the strength to deliver more power than Chevy has chosen to extract. Working on the basis that there's no such thing as too much horsepower, we stroke it to 416 cu in and upgrade the internals to make as much as 1,100 hp.
Every engine is custom-built, blueprinted, balanced and dyno'd in our shop. That's why we can put a one-year warranty on each one — we know they won’t disappoint.
Justifying an Engine Swap
There are many ways to get more power, but will the engine really be up to those increased loads? Invest in an LT1/LT4 crate engine and you know it will be. Invest in a stroked Golen Engine LT1/LT4 and you'll get the power your ride deserves. After all, we're offering the best LT4 crate engine for sale anywhere.
